Dear Alan Although our friendship was only for a short time, I felt it I got to know you well, we laughed and we cried together, many times, whilst trying to complete the many crosswords we did together which lead us down many paths of memories and thoughts. Thank you for our time together, which I shall remember as joyful and happy despite the pain that you so bravely endured and always with your cheeky smile. Rest in peace Alan.

Dear Alan, Although I didn’t know you very well, the time I spend with you and saw of you was lovely. Dear uncle Alan, I’ll miss you very much. I will miss seeing you at Christmas, Easter and other occasions . I loved seeing you at Zia and Zio’s for family meals quite a few times a year. My favourite memories with you were at Christmas when we used to play games, like the name game. You used to laugh at us for getting the game wrong and would then sigh while rolling your eyes, but the funny thing was you were as clueless as us. Although I won’t see you this Christmas I will be thinking about you and all the happy memories we have of you. I know you will be watching down on us all, heaven has gained an angel. Dearest Alan, As I look through the special and beautiful photos of you and your family, it reminds me that a Dad, a Father, is a unique and irreplaceable icon in a son's life. To be a Father is the most difficult job in the world, yet the most precious and privileged. A Father is a role model and bestows to his children a blueprint for life. Wonderful and challenging experiences come filled with so many special moments, giving love, loyalty, strength, guidance, encouragement, stability, security, comfort, happiness and fun. Words cannot contain the enormous feelings that come with the loss of Dad, yet your son's last paragraph in his moving tribute to you managed to capture, in a simple yet profound expression, all that you gifted him throughout your lifetime. It depicts the epitome and the essence of all that a Father should be - in one word alone. I quote: "A year or two ago you thanked me for sorting out a problem at your house and said I was your "rock". It was one of the few times you were wrong. Uncle Alan was a kind and supportive brother to Mum, and we remember him also as a kind and thoughtful uncle. When Jane was young he was always keen to know how school was going! He was a man who took a genuine interest in others. We also remember his sharp sense of humour. On the eve of our wedding we wished him good night, and said we'd see him tomorrow. His reply: "Well I hope so. I'll certainly be there, and it'll be a rum sort of a wedding if either of you isn't!" Uncle Alan was funny, wise and, above all, a true gent. Jane and Keith.

Dear Alan, you were a very dear friend to us. It was always a pleasure to see you and Ivonne. We loved to hear the story of how you met her. You had a great sense of humour and a very warm smile. We have very fond memories of that weekend we spent with you and Ivonne in Menorca and all the other times we saw you here in Mallorca and in England. Luis, Margarita, Alejandro and Yago

"Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend" and I certainly value the many hours we've spent sitting together chatting over a cuppa or two. You were always keen to hear not only what Dave, Marco and Laura were up to but also about my side of the family too. You were so appreciative of my visits which was heartwarming. I'll fondly remember your affectionate "hello darlin'" and you'd ask about me, about how my language lessons were going (and let's not forget how proud you were to tell me about your Spanish gcse), about my friends (you always remembered each one), ... always interested. We were never lacking in something to talk about including our favourite radio station which you'd sometimes have on in the background, despite our different views on some topics which we'd laugh about! If you were doing a crossword I was always impressed about how sharp and quick you were in getting the answer but not as impressed as you'd be with me if I ever got the answer first! I'll cherish the many loud and fun family occasions spent together. Most of all how happy you were whenever we asked you to be part of family gatherings and how you'd take your reserved seat at the table, never forgot to say "buon appetito" and enjoyed tucking into a big bowl of pasta or a roast dinner. Finally more recently at Lavender Fields I enjoyed taking part in the singing sessions with you and you belting out "Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner" which I teased you about! Thank you for being such a special father-in-law xox

One of my first Christmas memories of you and Yvonne were you coming down to Angmering and surprising a tiny Marco in your Santa hats and sacks full of presents. Seeing his face light up was a picture, but your happiness at seeing him excited was just the best. As years passed and our families grew, our Christmases were full of laughter, games and of course, drink! How many hours did you have to spend watching my girls perform their gymnastics over and over and over again!! They loved performing for nonno and uncle Alan and you sat there, clapped and praised them, no matter how many times they did the same routine! As Marco and Laura got older, it was always fun watching the three of you and of course Dave, sharing the same sense of humour... those 'looks', smiles and raising of the eyebrows when one of us really didn't get the game we were playing, was just a picture and certainly a Hacon trait which I watched with amusement!! Maria was often at the receiving end of your humour but she was always your 'darling'. Most of all, I will remember the care you always showed me and the girls..... Intelligent, kind, fun loving and a true gentleman. We will miss you uncle Alan 💙

Hey Dad So many special memories its hard to know where to start, but here are a few of my favourites 1- you always had my back and helped me make the right choice - remember that conversation when deciding which secondary school to go to "its up to you Dave, but if i were you...." 2- your neverending support - cheering for me when I played rugby at school even though you didnt know the rules and you would shout "offside" when it wasnt! 3- holidays - which were always brilliant - whether it was on the beach as a kid in Devon, Yorkshire or Scotland with Mum and Mike or in Majorca with Maria, Marco, Laura and Margarita & Luis 4- watching football with you - tickets to see Leeds winning the FA Cup in 1972 v Arsenal and England v Spain in the 1996 Euros Getting drunk in New York after England failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup or just shouting at the telly 'cos Chelsea missed a sitter! 5- laughing - watching Morecambe & Wise, Monty Python, The Two Ronnies on the telly - i owe my "special" sense of humour to you the list is endless... Dad, You were a very special Dad. You always looked after Mum, David and I. You worked hard, were fun loving and together with Mum provided a very safe, loving home. I will always remember and cherish the love and the special times. Love and God bless. Mike.
